Welcome to Central Jersey Geocaching!

E-mail Print

You have found the home of Central New Jersey's finest cachers, stashers & website crashers.

Jersey was too big for only a North and South group so the Central group was formed with the idea that we'll be the loose format, low maintenance group. The other groups are great but this leaves us more time for caching!

If you're brand new to the sport, here's a quick summary that answers the question "What is Geocaching?". It's more than using billion dollar government satellites to find junk in the woods!

Central Jersey Geocaching meets every Third Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Fuddruckers in New Brunswick. There's also active chatter in the Chat Room throughout the day. If "eventual message" is more your thing, browse the Log Book - the official forum of Central Jersey.

We've been busy adding "required reading" content to the site - frequently asked questions, downloadable log books, buying advice and more. Also be sure to check out the Events Calendar, Relevant Hotlinks & Photo Gallery as well.

So, browse around if you like. When you're ready to sign up, we're happy to have you... but really... your time is better spent outdoors. Cool

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is the art/sport of using a handheld GPS receiver to locate the hiding spot of hidden caches.

A geocache (pronounced GEE-oh-cash) is a small (hopefully waterproof) container containing at least a log book for you to sign when you find it. Caches often contain small items - trinkets, toys, key-chains, coins, etc - and cachers are encouraged to trade. We call this stuff "Swag".

Here's how it works from the beginning...

C of the M - August 2010 - CJCC: Romeo

E-mail Print

The Cache of the Month for August 2010 is the CJCC: Romeo (GC1NJ4R) by MuscleMusher
Hidden: 4/9/2009 - Difficulty: 2 - Terrain: 2 - Size: Regular

Flowers in Bloom "Romeo" represents the letter R in the Central Jersey Checkpoint Challenge - a series of 26 caches, plus a final, that highlight small local parks & take cachers all over Central Jersey. This one is a multi that takes you across Deep Cut Gardens - a beautifully landscaped & manicured garden park. Nine months out of the year you're sure to see flowers, bushes & trees in bloom. The finishing touch however was the location of the final and the creativity that the log-book has inspired. The log book includes a set of colored pencils and many cachers have added their art as a way of logging the find.

Flowers in BloomThis was MuscleMusher's first hide. With all of the other CJCC caches ready to publish this one was the last hold-out. Romeo! Where for art thou?! Exceptional hides take exceptional measures and Musclemusher had to win over the rangers at Deep Cut Gardens and then convince the reviewer that this was in fact a legal hide. The number of gallery photos and doodles in the log book justify the extra time and effort. TFTC!

The Cache of the Month is meant to highlight those fun, out-of-the-ordinary, standout caches so that all the area cachers can get an opportunity to learn about these caches and visit them. If you have any questions simply post your question or concern on the forum. We're always looking for suggestions for the next "CotM"!
